what are some examples of founders who built an open protocol *and* a VC-funded startup? farcaster is my first exposure to such a valiant attempt, and I’m wondering who else did this historically (both successfully and not as successfully)

I have previously studied topics related to blockchain, startups, and innovative activities, and the people mentioned are ones I have researched before. also at the end of my research I am tagging two of my friends who have extensively studied in this field, and I hope they can provide significant assistance.
