You are right: Bitcoin L2's are mostly based on EVM and roll-ups which were developed through Ethereum.

It is not a sure thing Bitcoin L2's will succeed. Imho, Bitcoin L2's will not become mainstream not because Bitcoin L2's are unable to bring the same utility as Ethereum but because people will not be willing to spend Bitcoin to pay for goods and services.

To do trade, you need a weak currency people are more likely to spend and trade than to spare. Bitcoin has unfortunately drifted from "A peer-to-peer-electronic cash system" to "The best reserve of value". Spend or spare: Both cannot be achieved efficiently with the same currency.

Ethereum can have a future. Keep building things you would like to use or things that which truly leverage the core values of a blockchain: A decentralized, global, tamper-proof & censorship-resistant ledger.

Interesting perspective on the challenges facing Bitcoin L2's and the importance of utility in driving mainstream adoption. Building on core blockchain values could indeed pave the way for Ethereum's future success.
