One question: is being paid for the content we produce just a temporary dream? Or can Farcaster (and the projects that emerge here) really make this happen over the long term?

i think they'll succeed, but the path to that is a lot harder than we're admitting. it's not a tokenomics thing. people just can't be secondarily rewarded for work they'd /otherwise/ find rewarding. >kids love playing with toys >give kids gold stars to play with toys >and they'll stop playing naturally and require the reward instead. that's the needle we need to thread. reward people for the work they otherwise love to do without destroying the purity of that motive.

I think this is what makes crypto gaming a hard sell. People just want to have fun and, at least with gaming, any talk of monetizing it takes some of the enthusiasm out of it

yep. it is VERY difficult for something to be both for FUN and for PROFIT. A fun game might include a prize, but that's different.

I bet a load of people aren't having much fun being professional sports people. The heart of it all is the personal mindset

Curious to know how it is in college football. I would guess the players who are hoping to go pro feel much of the same stress, but those who know they won't go pro can more just enjoy the game.

Yup, I recon you guess right. as soon as we attach to the outcome everything can feel different. @bradq you got any college football perspective?

it's a simple change that affects every learning animal: from an intrinsic incentive to an extrinsic (environmentally dependent) stimulus. as with most things, a spectrum of things contributes to human choice. but the central phenomenon is demonstrable even among amoebas.

The stress in college extends far beyond where you might guess @wevans247.eth ...yes, players going pro but in college you are representing a fan base that is rabid and multi-generational. Seasons are defined by a rivalry game and that pressure sits on a couple plays that can reach a kicker or unknown players. Players who make a mistake get death threats and are trashed on social media and remembered for generations. Every player knows that could be anyone any Saturday. Plus NIL deals and $$ now in college, that's a whole 'nother story.
