I've come to realise that I need a mono-repo. chat tells me to use pnpm and is providing a mono-repo starter. any issues with this approach?

I think turbo-repo plus pnpm is a good combination

That is a good way to go. Additional monorepo tooling can add lots of overhead and complexity if shipping as a small team, so best to research and see if you actually need those tools
