Bias’ use of Unicode characters and a remix of the academic concept of Capitalist Realism provokes the reader into pausing and thinking of their meaning and intent, while also integrating the “cope” motif seen in much of their art.

Cope is one of several themes in Bias’ art. To me it evokes ideas from “beer and circus” to the Cave to “opiate of the masses.” Oftentimes Bias uses it as a stylized wordmark, and plays into a soda motif, e.g. “Drink Cope,” perhaps an indirect allusion to how sugar is itself a societal analgesic.
