I’ve never struggled to have friendships across political / party lines. I hate many ideas but hating people is cringe, it’s also boring to surround yourself with an echo chamber This doesn’t mean every political stance is valid, just means discourse is good & we should take each other seriously. When we generalize about the bad guys on the other side we tend to say dumb things, and everyone always overlooks their own flaws or is generous with their team & overly critical of the others. Recognizing that is a continual process, more value than belief

The two party system thrives on keeping voters separated and emotionally divided with hot button issues. The fact is most of these issues are too complex to be simplified to left or right, right or wrong, black or white. We are encouraged to view them through a lens of extremism whether it’s abortion…killing babies or government control of a woman’s body…when the gray area is actually…or does the right to bear arms extend to an RPG. The best third options even struggle to find balance, and continue to fail. There used to be room for civil discourse and the country was founded and thrived on compromise. Now we have an evenly split government offset by a court stacked to one side. The McConnell court maneuvers shifted power to a place so far from the will of the majority, but could just as easily been Schumer. We are indeed in a sad place, where are the great compromisers like Henry Clay, Roger Sherman, and Stephen A. Douglas? Those who would put their country before their on vanity?

I think Dalio and many others are right, the course is set and it’s not a matter of if but when. If only we could all disagree with what each other say but defend to the death the right to say it, rather than instantly rejecting and minimizing differing thoughts.

yeah, my biggest issue with politicians like trump & harris is that they rely on appealing to our emotional responses to perceived threats instead of articulating values. its all inherently reactionary, and we jostle back and forth, caught in our collective obsession with culture wars. i could say a bunch of stuff that I believe, critical of democrats, republicans, centrists, you name it. but if I'm more left-coded I'll be labeled a communist (no workers need own the means of production for this to happen) its superficial, we all participate to some degree, and I don't feel very optimistic about the state of the nation
