I spent several years using drugs and alcohol to try to numb the loss of my mom at 19. For many years after I thought I would never get over the shame of that time. I’m finally at a stage in life where both of those periods are memories. They seem like lifetimes ago. Yes, there’s a reason I don’t drink, but it’s not my identity. Time heals and whatever stage you’re at don’t give up on yourself.
