Especially in the Atharva Veda, where it is referred to as a sacred plant. It refers to it as one of the five most sacred plants on earth. 

In the Mahabharata, it is associated with Shiva who uses bhang for meditation, and also in the Panchagavya.

What you are referring to is a stream of Hinduism. They were the first YOLO believers in the world -- known as "charvaka".

I have some different believes (that's why I don't smoke or drink).

But the best part of Hinduism is all philosophies respect different beliefs and live life in harmony. That's more important :)
