The Indian central bank has admitted to a catastrophic drop in demand for the digital rupee. Banks participating in the pilot project offered bonuses to customers, as well as paid part of the salaries of their own employees in digital rupees. Retail outlets had the opportunity to reduce transaction costs. Holders of the digital rupee were stimulated by lotteries, prize draws, increased cashback and free service.
