After the first month I got used to it and kept pushing the reno off. Then after about two years decided to just break it up into chunks, been updating piece by piece for the last few years

Thank you for sharing! Unless someone is absolutely loaded with cash, I think piece by piece ends up making the most sense.

Of course. And mindset is very different when looking vs living. You'd be surprised what you are okay with once you are in and used to it
