This was meant to be a treat, but it was overshadowed by sad news. University of the Arts, where my husband teaches, an institution that has been a cornerstone of the arts since 1870, announced its permanent closure this weekend. Students, just like the ones from this youth orchestra, will lose their school next week.

That's really heartbreaking ππ« As a former orchestra teacher it makes me even more sad to know students won't have this outlet anymore π’π₯ Was it due to funding? I feel that's almost always the case. Sports are so lauded in the US compared to fine/performing arts

Oh I didnβt know you were an orchestra teacher. π They never fully recovered financially after covid and the quality of education kept dropping. It turned into a business more than an art institution. My husband was quite upset about it. Looks like they eventually lost their accreditation too π
