This plant looks, of course, very peculiar - like a monster from a sci-fi movie. Hydnora africana parasitizes the roots of the shrub Euphorbia gregaria and is found in South Africa. The plant captures the insects with its flaps, but does not eat them, but holds them inside until the pollen is ripe. Then the flower opens and the insects spread it around. At this point, the flower itself has three flaps and looks like something like the Shai-Hulud sandworm from Dune.
