I know he gets a lot of hate, but Trump wants to end this, so I'm assuming US will change tune soon. Wouldn't be surprised if Trump has already had a couple calls with Putin since they're on good terms

Appeasing Putin is a horrible idea but people think that giving him everything he wants is going to lead to “peace” when in reality it’ll just embolden him

Would you accept a division where Russia-speaking majority remains in Russia and Ukrainian-speaking majority remains in Ukraine?

The only side seriously trying to forcefully migrate people is Russia. If Russian speaking Ukrainians want to go live in Russia nothing was stopping them from doing so

I'm not talking about sides here, talking about solutions - again this antagonistic stance that US also embraced only escalates war. Crimea is ethnically Russian, and so are parts of Eastern Ukraine. Additionally there are ethnic Ukrainians whose native language is Russian. In my mind, splitting either ethnically or based on language seems like a sustainable solution. Same solution proposed by many for Iraq, and sort of implemented for Syria. What's wrong with that?

Would've been great if there could've actually been free and fair referendums prior to Russia slaughtering or relocating all the people who they didn't like who lived in those areas

Are you saying Russia killed population of Crimea and force-migrated Russians there, PRIOR TO Crimean Invasion? If yes, that'd be a unique theory. If no, I don't see your point at all.

More about them abducting and slaughtering Ukrainians in eastern Ukraine. Ethnic Russians are also barely a majority in Crimea, and their 2014 referendum was done under occupation

The Crimean Tatars get to decide what to do with Crimea then, right? But yeah, arguing about negotiating borders to be more like the "historically accepted" split is something the aggressor loses after they invade and try to take over the entire country. The only way that ever happens is if the Ukrainians decide that's what they want

Great hypothetical. In the meantime, Ukrainians seem to prefer peace more and more, while Americans are cheerleading for more war from the sideline, claiming to know Russia more than Ukrainians.

I'm sure giving Russia everything they want (which is the only way they'll agree to "peace") will lead to more peace!
