The president of Slovakia is about to die due to an assassination attempt. The European president who was most committed to peace in Russia, who most criticized NATO. Coincidence? I don't believe it. We, the west, are lead by criminals

That’s a pretty tall accusation that Western leaders are behind a sitting European president’s assassination attempt. I understand it’s just “an opinion”, but in the absence of evidence, I’m not sure what the point is (everybody has an opinion, doesn’t mean it’s a productive discussion starter).

Orban is also against helping Ukraine and he’s safe and sound, as a counter-example, despite being arguably more vocal and influential than Fico (who, by the way, is prime minister, not president).

Being more in the spotlight is more protective tbh.

I think it’s the other way around. There are far more people who are aware of Orban and his political stance (and thus, a far larger subset of people who would be willing to harm him, given the opportunity) than of Fico, especially as Orban is seen as more influential and thus a greater threat to those who oppose him

That assumes regular people harmed Fico out of anger, and not an organization. If it's an agency that plans things, they'd rather go for someone less notorious - keep plausible deniability, while signalling what happens to detractors

Counter-argument to my point: CIA never acted that subliminally, they can always go for the biggest target and get away with it anyway. Even then, other political differences might've played a role. Both are Islamophobic, capitalist & populist but Fico criticized Israel & is economically slightly more nationalist.

Perhaps. I'm reluctant to follow the conspo theory, though. For now the Interior Minister (from the same social-democrat nationalist party as Fico) has called the shooter, Juraj Chintula, a "lone wolf". By all appearances, this was the opportunistic act of one extremist
