I now mostly view Bitcoin Maxis through the lens of monetarists versus technologists. 

The Maxi sole goal is to preserve BTC’s monetary policy, and in pursuing that, they’re the vocal part of social layer trying to constrain the tech layer. 

The technologists — basically everyone else in crypto — use the social layer to expand upon the technology layer, and then this improves coordination/activity at the social layer, which again is used to improve the tech layer … and so on. The tech — and expanding the possibilities of what it can deliver — is the end goal. Not monetary policy.

It’s the techno-futurist version of goldbugs versus MAG7 — with a dose of Puritanism/Salafism woven in there to excommunicate those who’ve strayed from the pristine original vision
