Why don’t we build a global system for instant p2p payments? Seems like we have everything we need: - Transactions on L2s are cheap and fast - Account abstraction wallets are easy for anyone to use - Stablecoins offer low volatility

Good point. This is probably the last missing technical piece. If you or anyone has examples/ideas/resources/docs on how this might be solved on an L2, I would be eager to see that.

Some built this cool thing that encrypts the amounts sent between accounts. https://privatetoken.xyz/, very PoC I'm still trying to figure out if something like stealth addresses could be used in conjunction to also decouple addresses.
