sorry but this seems INSANE but my dad was telling me when he was a kid in Chicago they didn't have trash pickup they just had concrete bins that they burned their trash in and then the garbage people would collect the leftover ashes/stuff that didn't burn. like everybody just threw away their trash inside and then lit it on fire and then left ? idk  do other countries still do this regularly ? i guess everybody just breathed in burnt trash all the time ?

I grew up in the woods and my parents had a “burn barrel” for trash.  Basically all non-recyclable stuff got burned.
