Music NFTs failed because the hype did not meet reality. Collecting music needs to be free and accessible at scale. It's not realistic for every artist to promise tickets, merch + meet and greets. Or for songs to be sold for thousands of dollars at scale. Music NFTs walked so $1 open editions could run.

I think some kind of soundcloud/dex thing could maybe work. Up n comers and established independent artists upload whatever as NFT and let ppl speculate. I definitely think the mental gap of free accessibility vs. limited items is the main issue for artists. The best artists are not good business ppl in their early careers usually and are just trying to express themselves. I think the interest is there tho, it's just a matter of time before it's normal to rap about holding crypto and trading shitcoins etc.

Yeah totally agreed on the sweet spot being something in between Soundcloud and a DEX. There are a few projects playing around with more fungible tokens/bonding curve based models I'm keeping a close eye on. The reality is the way we get most new artists on now is removing any notion of speculation or utility - it's just another ordinary income stream for them. My biggest fear with adding a lot of volatility into the mix is that the stakes become too high for artists to be down to experiment at scale. IMO $1 editions with a rebate + some points back is a healthy starting point for emerging artists to feel comfortable dipping their toes in (and what's worked for us)

This just gave me a really good idea…. SoundCloud + @superfluid 👀 Set a price per second per song. If people start listening they pay the set price streamed per second, if they stop they stop paying. If they listen to the entire song they pay the full price. There is something here… cc @sebas.eth

it's a cool idea! but i don't think that people would pay more than what they pay for Spotify for music streaming :/

is there a way to tie micropayments with ads for streaming music 👀 ? brave tried doing something along those lines with $BAT and advertisers paying users, but i think the project never really took off
