It’s funny that the moment we all suddenly got really clear eyed about how capital & power wields trad media, most non boomers dropped Fox and MSNBC en masse… andddd we all shifted straight to algo-feeds and “content creators.” the legacy media issues are real, but new media is just as bad We are not closer to the truth reading our substacks, we just each have our optimized feeds. Everyone has their influencers, their “current thing”. Platforms surface or repress according to their interests. Reporters and influencers fight for attention, streamers scrapping it out in an ever escalating war for reactions Our perception is “alternative media,” but it’s just a new, enormous industry. Highly centralized, too. It feels different though, and we enjoy imaging ourselves as rational. The independent thinkers, blissfully unaware

it just takes longer for information to disseminate now i find myself caring less and less about anything to do with politics or even general news simply because it's such a shit show of spectacle and opinion leading up to the election, I found myself watching the biggest alt media for either left/right just to compare. noticed how they create content is the same framework, just change some names and wording for the audience. certainly think it's become worse than trad news sources as they've slowly become better my favourite type of journalism is the young ppl that randomly interview people with pointed questions. those are a real view into what ppl are really feeling and thinking

I think about this a lot too The style, tone is nearly identical, minor differences in content There is of course a rich ecosystem of great content & very meaningful independent news, but it’s much less popular and there is soooo much slop.
