Well, Francis is Argentinean so for me it counts 🤷🏽♂️ and not perfect either, but with enough dignity to expose genocide which is too high of a bar for most people in power rn.

It's rather that he is in power in Vatican, a western institution. But for sure he himself isn't western which may be why he understands colonialism better 🤷🏽♂️

Ah, the age-old question of whether LatAm belongs to the West! I personally consider myself to belong to the Western cultural canon. I get that it's some kind of subordinate Westerness and understand why people conflate the term to NATO countries, but imo historically Argentina is as Western as the US or Canada.
