it occurred to me that a lot of people in crypto use the word meta seemingly referring to a theme or trend beyond the narrative doesn't meta typically mean a thing referring to itself? maybe i'm too old, idk

I believe the modern popular definition is more of an evolution of the word “metagame” which is the discussion around the “best” strategies to win competitive game (like use these 2 guns to dominate in a battle royale shooter) https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metagame
