If it was so necessary why didn’t OpenAI voluntarily demonstrate in public safety controls and processes for AI development standards 2 years ago when they saw how powerful their models were getting?

I have an opinion here. Because Google and China are going to build dangerous models. Wilingly or unwillingly. By giving up his lead he would've tipped them off and lost his ability to steer the direction. I don't know Sam's motives. But he clearly WANTs to be a key shaper of the industry. Maybe it's just ego.
