Are fans different from users or customers?

yes

many fans don’t pay for anything ever (so doesn’t map to customers) but will still evangelize the creator/content

i think the what defines a user is a pain point, but collapsing everything that goes with consuming content into solving a  “need for media” pain point doesn’t quite map?

I’d maybe accept fans are a subset of users but not super convicted on that
