Less people telling them to go to college. Small town America is built on entrepreneurial spirit and self sufficiency. Essentially they need to double down on the “country boy can survive” mentality, which is both liberating and future proof

Still gotta be in the right macro direction though. My family in Tennessee leaned into that hard with running small businesses and all eventually went under due to Amazon/Walmart/corpo competition. The only fully employed one in the past few decades worked for the VA her whole career 😩

I think a lot of small town America got gutted by becoming a hollow suburb. HVAC techs, mechanically inclined solo-preneurs are doing pretty well. A lot of money to be made servicing the people who don’t know how to make things in physical world work

That’s def true (although it’s also true some are coming back alive when the cities sprawl enough to subsume the formerly hollow suburb 😂) Definitely see that - although I worry that’s a local maxima when in a remote work world a lot of those folks could really impact the global economy w their competence
