There are 2 internets. One is the place where you find funny, interesting, and useful content from the most creative people in the world The other is where you interact with your friends and networks Today, we shove both into the same apps and call it social media, but imo itā€™s clear thatā€™s gonna change soon

Quick question Are you saying both sides of the internet canā€™t mix or co-exist?

I'm saying the best version of the Content internet app is not the best version of the Network internet app. Every social company started out as a NIA, realized that CIAs were better for shoving ads into user eyeballs, and tried to morph their NIA into a CIA. So now we're in a weird spot w a bunch of halfway apps.

Interesting point tho. But what do you think is the impact of this shift on the way we interact with each other online? Are we losing something valuable in the process of prioritizing ads and content or nah?

I meanā€¦ Do I think interpersonal relationships are a core part of a healthy life? Yes. Do I think the shift to Content apps reduces the amount/depth of our relationships? Also yes. Do I also think that most relationships Iā€™ve had in my life were mostly filler? Also also yes. Pros and cons šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Real but Iā€™m trying to go with the fact that both sides of sm could co-exist I mean, donā€™t we still utilize the concept of interpersonal relationships in our ā€˜serious ā€˜ side of social media Or am I missing something Or wait letā€™s take /okbanger for example. Will you classify it under the ā€˜seriousā€™ side of social media I mean, itā€™s content, isnā€™t it

ā€œ2 internetsā€ is useful mental model but ultimately wrong. Itā€™s really a continuum from ā€œseriousā€ Content to Network and as you build ā€œseriousā€ clout you get the privilege of turning the Content app into your Network app. This is how Twitter social dynamics basically work. @christin and I havenā€™t spoken about this exact question, but I believe we both think of /okbanger as a serious pursuit weā€™re putting real thought + effort into making high quality content that will eventually reach a lot of people. Weā€™re different than existing creators in that we believe in a flatter, more explicitly interactive relationship with people who enjoy what weā€™re talking about (and cocreating with us via chat and replies), but are trying to take the best lessons learned and apply them to the show. So ā€œseriousā€ but without the ego baggage and with a deep focus on understanding what our community wants us to explore more

Yesss perfect. /okbanger is a serious pursuit(which I am the biggest supporter of btw) But i still believe the beauty of /okbanger stems from the interpersonal relationships. The love we have for you and christin stems for that, the love we have for your content too I was never a podcast person, but i was open to giving a podcast a try, why? Interpersonal relationship. And on giving the podcast a try, i decided ā€œoh! This isnā€™t so bad, i love their content and workā€ Then I continued and continued. Why am I saying this? Because Iā€™m sure itā€™s not only me Iā€™m just trying to point out how these two ā€˜sidesā€™ mix/link

And we super appreciate you for that! Christin and I were just chatting earlier about this exact thing too - the relationship piece is critical Thank you for sharing some of your thoughts on it + the show šŸ«”

Always, Cam Haha yes it is critical lol Hoping to get to places where I get to also capture peopleā€™s interests(Iā€™m working towards it) I also wanted to know if i could speak to you about something Iā€™m working on ( as regards my posts on physical health) that I would love you to be a part of I wasnā€™t sure if itā€™ll be your thing and wasnā€™t sure how to ask, but i mean, we never push further with our goals if we donā€™t try, right?
