Now I’ve been a LOT of dumb situations, but I think this is the dumbest

While deployed to Afghanistan back in 2016/17, my company was the only unit in the Tarin Kowt region (bout an hour by air away from any other NATO units)

We had a makeshift base setup where we lived so we could maintain a secure location in this area so NATO generals could advise the Afghan Army on how to fight the Taliban

So we made a mini position within an Afghan army base who were 50/50 Taliban sympathetic (we knew this bc we listened to their unencrypted radio transmissions…. with the Taliban) 

And every few days a General would come through and we’d provide security for like a 6 hour PowerPoint presentation which we soon realized was just an excuse for the NATO generals to just sort of hang out and drink tea and eat chicken + rice. 

Overall dumb, but manageable…
