Hello Cam. Just got back from work I spent my break at work, reading your writings on substack, which are so interesting and natural btw (i decided to download the app btw, it’s easier than the web) Why “Give up?”😭 (Tar tasks) If you give up, don’t the Tar tasks just live on?

the implication here is that you can ofc only give up on tasks that aren't required to be completed by some other obligation if its a tar task, but you *truly* give up on it (bc you don't need it) then it doesn't live in your mind/take up space/etc sorta tautological, but if it still weighs on you, you ofc haven't really given it up

Okay so let me make a simple scenario I am meant to get a second pair of shoes tomorrow (which I’ve been shifting for days). But cus I’m lazy. I decided not to anymore, and cus i still have a pair in using rn. Does that apply in this scenario? PS: i used this scenario cus there’s nothing involving the “fear of failure” in this case Just laziness

This feels like less of a tar task and more of a chore you don’t feel like doing Tar tasks are like big sticky things that also usually have some sort of tie to your self or ego that is holding you back (like you avoid bills until the last second bc you’re afraid of looking at your account) Is a fitness related activity that for you? Do you feel bad about not exercising and that’s why you’re avoiding getting the shoes? If not and it’s more like “eh I don’t feel like it” I think that’s just a normal human reaction

Okay this makes perfect sense And the coincidence is crazy cus i was at the gym when i was reading Tar tasks during my breaks between sets I’ve been skipping the gym for 2 months now and using work as an excuse and i have body dysmorphia, which was my reason 2 years ago for going to the gym in the first place It has been affecting me mentally, not going to the gym, but i still kept on skipping and finally went today. The coincidence is funny😂 I still have a couple questions from one or two of your other writings but just tell me if this is a good time, so I’ll know if I should write them down in my notes(so I don’t forget) and keep for later

I mean I def understand the body dysmorphia + avoidance, but also encourage you to find a fitness related activity that “fits” for you + your goals. I love lifting, but many don’t and that’s okay I’m on + off today but if you ask I can probably get to it today (and just re-tag me if it gets dropped tomorrow)

Thankss I wanna ask also( not my main question) Do you just write naturally as these things come to mind? Or you plan them out They feel like I’m reading your thoughts out loud from my screen It’s great fr

Makes sense I’m gonna spend more time on these write ups and hope you write more often Btw. This Looking at farcaster How could the idea of giving people "free money" (in the form of rewards or benefits) and the need for users to put in effort and make sacrifices in order to achieve their goals be balanced? And did you mean people tend to be lazy about their efforts when it involves free money? I’m trying to lead somewhere with this
