Alrighty, I don't want to ruin the fun but I read about this a few years ago. If memory serves correctly, the man was homeless and hungry. At that time, people would eat paste as a last resort because it was just flour and water. However, the paste used to bind books (library paste) also contained alum, which is toxic in large enough quantities. Honest mistake by a hungry man 🥲
