I have tried so hard to get through The Lessons of History, but it's pretty darn dense. Has anyone taken an alternate, more "approachable", route to covering this broad of a topic (5,000 years of history 😅)? I recognize this may involve multiple books.

It's partly that the writing style is outdated so it doesn't read super easily, though the book is pretty short if you are able to get past that. I think Sapiens might be the closest modern analog? Lessons of History is honestly less of a "here's the history of the world" book and more about human patterns that repeat.

I think you nailed it. The writing style is more didactic with a philosophical tone vs. Sapiens, which has more of a storytelling vibe.
