I’ve been a dev in the web3 gaming space for like 8 years now and if I’ve observed one frustrating trend it’s that companies love to over-complicate the shit out of their web3 implementations.

Unless being fully onchain is your gimmick then complex game logic probably shouldn’t be there either. Use your game engine for that.

I’d really like to see game companies master using blockchains for what they’re good at: payment rails, marketplaces, novel economies, asset ownership, item interactions, etc. The fruit has never been hanging lower here, so to speak.

That said I’m mega bullish for onchain gaming. Lots of experimentation with new tech was to be expected, but this is the phase where the rubber meets the road and we discover what works.

Naturally collectible-oriented games like TCGs will probably take off first. Pokemon TCG mobile game is doing numbers rn - now imagine it onchain 👀 Courtyard has the RWA version of this on lock.

I’ve said this before on the bird app: blockchains are where value is stored. If your thing doesn’t have onchain value then it doesn’t need to be stored there. Save yourself the headache and put it in Postgres.
