why do people mint music? I minted some songs from @cooprecs the other day and found myself wanting to listen to one of them in the car. Naturally, I searched on Spotify first and found it. So, why mint the song? Status and support. Ever have that friend tell you “oh man I was listening to these guys before they went mainstream”. Minting a song gives you proof. You were here first and you’ve been a loyal supporter since the early days. Access. What if Spotify didn’t have the song I wanted to listen too? Minting it could have been the only way to hear it. As the space grows I think “mint exclusive” songs and records will catch on w/ enough distribution. Likely more lucrative for artists as well. Access can also mean gateways into exclusive offers from artists. “Oh you minted my record last year? I’m having a meet and greet for all those who minted in support.” Of course these things can often lead to speculation, especially in this space. How do we avoid it? What else am I missing?
