A New View of FC Community (my /firstdraft ) We talk about 'building community,' but why is it so hard? @danicaswanson shared "Community Is Not the Product," in which the author argues that extrinsic--or external---incentives, in particular tokens, will not 'build' community. A community, he says, 'is an organic group of humans who are aligned on a given mission & values, working together to achieve that goal.' A community is formed by intrinsic-or internal-incentive--the people are already aligned. Community is a big part of why I'm here. This article gave me words to describe some things I've seen. @hankmoody is building /live-the-same with intrinsic incentives. Hundreds of FCers meeting hundreds of FCers--it's like a digital cup of coffee. /sense recently decreased in activity when Moxie changed. Guess who it didn't change? @3irka.eth @girl-ua @tylerfoust.eth @rosekeyes @vito4ka.eth Why? Because they are there for intrinsic reasons--they love building community. 1/2 (cont'd ⬇️ )

2/2 (cont'd from above ⬆️) @chriscocreated builds community with deep commitment from a small crowd. Many who seemingly fit perfect pass by. Extrinsic incentives can make things easier but community building is hard. There are other channels & 'communities' that are based on extrinsic incentives. Nothing wrong with that--in fact much of what we do will have extrinsic incentives. But I think this article helped me to realize we might now want to call them communities. I also appreciate the people who use FC to naturally build community. Whether that's through a project like /gmfarcaster for @adrienne & @nounishprof or just through how they naturally live here @hankmoody @ted @danicaswanson are 3 favorites. True community building in web3 may be harder that we might've thought and it may be a smaller crowd who are truly here for it, but I think it's a worthy aspect of brining the world onchain and I'm here for it.
