my 1 year old is starting his daycare this week. for parents who've been down this road, what's the best piece of advice for the transition? any lessons you learned the hard way?

Congrats! All transitions have a period of adjustment - for you and for your child. This is healthy for you both. Also, prepare to have your immune system strengthened! And on that front pick up a copy of If Your Kid Eats This Book, Everything Will Still Be Okay.
