warning: long read, personal POV

i worked for years with brands, celebs, banks, investors, and foundations. i know how powerful brand marketing is in building trust and community.

and as someone whose family, friends, and daily life don’t touch crypto (despite my best effort), i’m painfully aware of how bad crypto’s brand is.

if you’re thinking “only XYZ is cringe,” hate to break it to you: to most people, there’s no difference between ethereum, solana or base. to them, it’s all just crypto.

no amount of “man on the street” tiktoks, memecoins, or cypherpunk storytelling is going to fix that.

i’ve been in crypto since 2018, and the most consistent thing i’ve seen convert skeptics into believers is simple: trusted humans.

people change their minds when someone they trust shows them something they care about.

maybe i’m wrong, but i still think the best way forward is what’s worked for every other network: good humans onboarding other good humans.

it’s slow until it’s not.

"first principle" question

Why is the dominant rallying cry for people in crypto to talk about ways of getting more people in crypto? It seems more like a religion or multi-level marketing business than a technology.

Not picking specifically on @ted, this cast just highlighted a thought that has been brewing a while.

this was meta commentary response to a cast noticing that the major through line when dan asked why more people weren’t inviting friends to Farcaster was mostly around too much crypto content, crypto too bad of a brand.

my other POV is that stablecoins will be how crypto becomes mainstream via fintechs, payments, banking, etc. and consumers won’t know nor care it’s on crypto. TYB has done this with  consumers, but no other consumer app has.

I agree, but also it was in an early version of our pitch deck, so I'll be the first to repent.
