Merkle Manufactory is a private, VC funded startup 

They are building:
Farcaster - the protocol
Warpcast - the client

Farcaster is like email - a permissionless technical standard that any machine can post to/read from

Warpcast is like gmail - an opinionated app used to access Farcaster protocol data

Yes, but would be even better if MM figures out a way to make money from developing Farcaster even if Warpcast is outcompeted by another client. 

Otherwise it puts MM, and thus Farcaster, in a tricky spot.
