If I remember correctly, 1Confirmation and Multicoin have some of the best performing early stage consumer bets in crypto. If you're saying more generally consumer, then you would probably have to throw in a16z, Sequoia, General Catalyst, and a few more.

Underrated: founder friends who are willing to call you out for not shipping fast enough. Itโ€™s easy to tell someone theyโ€™re doing a great job to avoid conflict โ€” itโ€™s hard to care enough to tell them theyโ€™re fucking things up. Some of the most helpful chats Iโ€™ve had are with friends who have chewed out my team for promising to release something and failing to follow through.

I'm fairly confident most of our workflow will be completely erased by AI and on a 3-5 year timespan. The area with the biggest gaps right now are understanding complex systems and exhaustive edge-case coverage when those systems interact with each other. But I could easily see the development of a series of isolated and battle-tested microservices that are then orchestrated in some way with AI. A few months ago, I was building a task manager project for a hackathon with a database and my friend forced me to instead use the context window of the LLM and write it down to JSON blobs that were stored locally. Ever since then, I've challenged my assumptions a bit more about what AI will or will not be able to do.

Got sick this week, a friendly reminder to take care of your health! (Which of course no one will listen to... I wouldn't.) But managed to get out statuses for issues we're currently tracking at /frens so users can be informed. Not knowing what's happening is a scary truth of most crypto products so hoping this helps everyone know that our team is on it!

Agreed. I think the breakthrough app will be a channel-specific client either for a fandom (e.g. One Piece) or a college group. But two things need to happen: 1. Farcaster fees need to come down to $0 for about 10k users for it to make sense to build on channels. Without that, someone who has the go-to-market skills would never build on a protocol that could restrict their growth. 2. It needs to leverage some core benefit of crypto to justify building on complex decentralized infrastructure (the alternative is Firebase which is easy and free). My best guess here is something related to marketplaces and micropayments, which has become the dominant use case for crypto in gaming. I could imagine an app for Pokemon card collectors where you can show off your collection but have a built in marketplace. Or an app for college students to make goods/services (art, clothes, pastries, etc.) and sell them to their classmates. It would probably involve some kind of showing off (posting) coupled with transactions.

We actually use a lot of external APIs! But data is fragmented and our needs have often evolved faster than infra companies can support. We have to support things like CAIP identifiers, social context, live/historical prices, etc. A bit underwater right now but would love to chat soon!
