Feeling like I might be overemphasizing getting my site/project to work on vercel, but also feeling like the earlier it works on vercel, the better I'll be in the long run of working on this project... Is that true or should I just make the thing and figure it out at the end?

Whatever path gets you the worst, but functional end to end solution that a user can use the fastest is probably the most productive one.
