I know Tyler, the Creator’s Chromakopia had impressive first-week sales, but I’m curious: do people still care about sales numbers? When was the last time stats like first-week units, pure album sales, or streaming counts actually grabbed your attention?

Outside of being a comparative temp check...they matter much less to me. I only use them as a metric to compare one artist to another in terms of scale.

I suppose it’s better than having nothing to compare to. I love that Tyler dropped the album on a Monday. We need more artists to break away from the structures and standards that only benefit big tech and labels

Yeah. All the rankings and numbers and awards and accolades and stuff are just...part of the story. I think in realtime they matter less. Also don't forget that Tyler did release physicals, so even though the streaming started delayed...the actual sales didn't.

Apparently he did 142k pure album sales, but that includes both physical and digital

142K pure is a HUGE number in this era. When you put it like that and see the rest, he the other 157k in streams which is….235M streams. Also a crazy number. Just from a scale perspective that’s crazy

It’s crazy how 30k pure sales aren’t considered bad these days when artists used to pull in 1-2 million. I feel like the 2007 album sales battle between 50 Cent and Kanye West marked the end of that era. Kanye supposedly sold 957k, while 50 sold 691k
