I love dogs, not scared or allergic. I just don't have space in my apartment for a dog, nor do I have a back yard.

saying "I love dogs" is an understatement. I adore them. I had a dog when I was a kid and I loved that dog with all my heart. My father bought it for me, I was the one who was vocal about getting a dog. Specifically, I wanted a rottie. Sadly, I was too young/inexperienced to know/realize the obligations it would bring and did not understand the levels of hurt I brought to that dog. I did not walk it regularly and did not spend enough time with him then. This is sth I think about often, even now after 30+ years, and I "hate" myself for it. 

Now, I understand what I did (or did not do). I would not want to get a dog (for myself or my kids) if I cannot give it enough attention. Which I can't right now, and I would feel like I'm torturing (this theoretical new) dog again.
