I think the lack of center that the word implies has more to do with the absence of gatekeepers and a hierarchical order than with its permissionless nature, which derives from this lack of a vortex.

i think theres an additional part which is, the ability cant be taken away for example - substack lets you export your subscriber list. you theoretically can "exit this system without losing your assets" BUT substack can also just turn off that feature at any point, they are still "centralized"
