What are Ethereum smart contracts? Smart contracts are application code that appear at a specific address on the blockchain called the contract address. The application can call smart contract functions, change their state, and initiate transactions. Smart contracts are written in programming languages such as Solidity and Vyper, then compiled into bytecode by the Ethereum Virtual Machine and executed on the blockchain.
