The classic example is retail, once dominated by department stores like Sears and Kmart, until the internet drove consumers to two extremes: high-status premium brands and hyperscale internet retailers.

I hear you, understand the framework, but how do you explain Walmart in your retail example? I would argue that consumers go to hyper efficient/scale channels on one end, internet or not. Even though the internet forced the shift.

Yeah Walmart seems like another winner alongside Amazon at the hyper scale end. (Doesn’t have to be winner take all, but hyper scale competition does have a consolidating effect).
