On September 10, 1950, The New York Times published an exclusive article about Nikon cameras and Nikkor lenses. The American media article praised the high quality of Nippon's products, based on claims from TIME magazine photographers who came to East Asia to photograph the Korean War.
Nikon cameras worked well in the harsh conditions of the Peninsula region in Korea and, unlike competitors' products, provided high-quality photos of the events that took place.
In a 1950 New York Times article, the Japanese company's lenses were described as better than German lenses. Because of this article, Nikkor lenses gained worldwide fame and completely changed the meaning of the phrase "Made in Japan".
