I’m not going to defend the artistic choice of going for a burlesque show instead of something more classical. But I can help with some context for what you’re seeing here.

The blue character is an interpretation of Nietzsche’s Dionysos, used here as an antagonist to “the Crucified” (Jesus). It’s part of the whole shtick they did that night that apparently offended a bunch of Christians.

So it’s not as randomly degenerate as it seems, it’s a burlesque and highly symbolic representation of a pretty deep theme with historical and philosophical undertones.
