One random personal thing I gonna share today that a ton of people would have never guessed about me: Took me almost two decades to somewhat make peace with my own voice, and Iâm still not fully there yet. Iâm insanely self-conscious about this. Growing up in a patriarchal country with a low unfeminine voice is fun. Growing up with Disney princesses singing my favorite tunes that I would never be able to sing even if I were a pro performer is fun. Give me a dramatic mezzo princess or a contralto (scandalous!). The truth is you have to be a phenomenal contralto artist to get the same amount of love and recognition as an average soprano. And donât even get me started on the accent that arenât universally considered âhotâ - thatâs a whole other topic. No moral here - just observations

When I was growing up I was the only âboyâ to join the elementary choir, in a patriarchal society that wants its âboysâ and men to be extremely masculine: even as a boy I wasnât afraid to âsing like a girlâ đ¤ I had the inverse experience đ
