I still don't get how people sometimes can understand opposite things from the same facts.

But how are those brains wired? Especially when only one person in the room sees the opposite.

Confirmation bias is absolutely one of the strongest forces in the scenario you are speaking to The best book you could read or listen to that I know of, to get a good sense of why people will strongly insist on believing what they believe: The Righteous Mind by Jonathan Haidt

I will add it into my todo list of readings. Do you know if they provide any tools to break the cycle?

once you understand all the moving parts(the book outlines a great deal of them), not simply the confirmation bias, you may have a better Birds Eye view of what it takes to change someone’s position on something if it’s something that conflicts with their positive idealism of their “team” or tribe, it will literally inflict psychic damage on them and they will almost always reject it you have to figure out how to provide them with the intuition that leads them to the insight as to why they may be mistaken The book is tremendous, honestly
