There is another product that does this: https://www.beeper.com (also in beta). I have it and it does work.

But the way the different "bridges" work is usually that their server intercepts the messages by pretending to be the respective web client, decrypting messages before re-encrypting.

It's based on matrix.org.

If they’re not using any Apple device, I’m curious how it could be actually iMessage.
