The very first manga in my hands was Dragon Ball in 1993. I could barely read, so I kept asking what was written 😆

International edition covers/design back in the day were funny. The international distributors really seemed to think they needed to reinvent the wheel. My first DBZ was sold in US comic size chapters, not tankobon, or like 8 chapters in one. It ended up being ridiculously expensive 😅 This one is so nostalgic!

Yes, the publishers tried quite a few things upon recognizing the potential of these works. In Europe, manga covers are often much more original than in Japan, for example with luxury editions made of leather, etc. Yes, nostalgia is indeed a powerful and interesting cognitive currency ♥️🥰
