186 new Farcaster channels created in less than 24 hours since going permissionless. 162 before. 348 total now. 114% growth. And all of the new ones cost ~$25.

Is there any way to curate potentially redundant channels?

My understanding is they disappear after 12 months if renewal fees are not paid. There are already adjacent channels (such as /books & /literature, /trading & /alpha) where I don’t imagine we have a large enough audience for such topical nuances, so it might happen quickly that some channels fall into disuse.

Can we set up Warp DAOs and subscribe to specific channels? If we truly are entering the era of “Read-Write-Own” then content creators/moderators should be able to recoup channel costs.

Great question. I’d like to read other people’s thoughts because this is virgin territory for me. I’ve created content for free on X and FC because it was in my selfish interest to do so (followers, clout, etc - the influencoor game). I’ve also moderated a subreddit for free because it was fun and engaging, 1

not because I was getting anything out of it. But I’ve never had to pay to maintain my subreddit, so this is now a hybrid paradigm I haven’t seen before. Personally, what will matter is whether Warps inflate. I’ve paid ~$75 + tx fees to create three channels. Not sure I’d want to pay a lot more next year. 2

Other than personal enjoyment was there any benefit to modding a subreddit?

I would not have wanted any compensation, because then it just becomes a (poorly-paid) second job. But I would have liked to be involved in Reddit’s governance, which spez did very poorly in my view. So maybe some DAO for channel creators (as the parent suggested) could make sense, to help steer the ship.

I think many would find representative governance and revenue shares to be enjoyable
