Sr Level Job Seekers: Are you considering a role with a startup? Here are three red flags to watch out for: 1. Materially above average total comp. 2. Over relies on investor brands to sell you on joining. 3. Only willing to discuss what is going well for the business. Not all that glitters is paved with gold.

To me the #1 red flag is when the CEO seems chaotic. From my & my friends' experience so far it always meant that they chaotically change the course all the time without communicating properly and call it "iterating".

4. Interview processes that are too short or too drawn out. You should get a good feel of the team and role over 2-3 hours of interviewing, not 30 minutes or 8+ hours.

Good ones! Vague mission and goals have been a quick turn-off for me. Get me to the finish line - what's the objective, purpose, and strategy to accomplish. I need to walk away knowing these things very clearly.
